Action post

As a social worker, I plan on making more awareness to this topic. Many people do not understand why a child may behave the way they do. As a social worker, I can speak to my clients about the different types of behavior issues. This would help both the child and the parent have some type of understanding as to what is going on. I could talk with the child to see why they act the way they do. This will allow me to take the necessary steps to help the child. As a social worker, I can suggest some family time with the parents and child so that they can feel loved. I can also suggest more sessions or even treatment if necessary. As for the parent, I can suggest parent management training. This will show them that they are not alone . This training aims to change parenting behaviors, teaching parents positive reinforcement methods for improving children's behavior problems. Passionate Post

Kids with behavioral disorders is a topic that I found interesting since 7th grade. I've always had a bond with kids, so I spent most of my middle and high school years volunteering at daycares and babysitting my neighbors' children. It wasn't until I met a 4-year-old, who always acted out during the day. His behavior triggered my curiosity as to why he would act like this. Yes, I do know that "kids will be kids" but this was different. He cursed, hit adults, ran out of classrooms, and threw tantrums. The staff and volunteers didn't know how to handle him. They would sit him in corners, yell at him, "nap time", or leave him by himself. Because I was a new volunteer, I knew nothing of his medical history. I had to chaperone him one day, and my supervisor finally told me that he suffers from ADHD so I have to be patient while working with him. I never had a problem chaperoning him. Behavioral disorders in children is a common problem. Parents experience their children acting out at home, even at school. A behavioral disorder is when a child displays different behaviors outside of normal behavior. According to Boston's Children’s Hospital, symptoms of behavioral disorders include: Easily getting annoyed or nervous, often appearing angry, putting blame on others, refusing to follow rules or questioning authority, arguing and throwing temper tantrums, or having difficulty in handling frustration. (PsychGuides, 2018) Although behavioral disorders/issues can be an issue in both genders; boys are more likely to “suffer from behavioral disorders” (Victoria, 2017).
